Reasons Why Students Don’t Do Their Homework
To know the reasons why students should avoid homework, it is thefirst important thing that you should know what homework actually is. This also include what is the purpose behind doing homework and how could it benefit the children. So let us start with the concept of homework.
What is homework?
Homework is the work given to students from school or from their tuition which they are supposed to complete at home. It is given for various subjects and is of various kinds. It may include logical homework, mathematical homework and learning up chapters. Thus it is necessary that students deal with each of these subjects differently.
But it is usually seen that students hate doing homework and avoid them. Thus in order to motivate the children it is the duty of the parents to know first the benefits of doing the homework. There are various benefits of doing homework such as:
- Homework teaches your child to be responsible for his work.
- It helps them to do all their work for proper time management.
- It helps them know the subject in greater details and excel in it.
- It allows them to develop a habit of studying regularly and maintain all their other tasks accordingly.
Thus these benefits will motivate the parents and in return help them to teach their children the proper value of doing homework.
Reasons why children avoid homework
There are several reasons behind why students find homework difficult and run from it. If we are clear with the reasons, it will be very easy for us to deal with them and help them develop a love towards homework. Some of the reasons are as follows:
The first problem that students find while doing homework is time. They find homework to be time-consuming and tiring. It takes a lot of time to analyze the work and do it accordingly which in return cut the time that they could have devoted to other activities.
Thus, they choose to run away from doing this task every day and choose to engage themselves in other activities.
- Its Value
The second problem attached with homework is that students think that it can only help them academically and not in any other ways. Thus they think devoting time in some kinds of games will be more beneficial.
But it has been seen that along with good marks homework can also fetch you other values such as responsible, confidence and the ability to handle your own task on time.
- Different Types
Further students avoid doing homework because they don’t like the style of doing it. There are various ways homework and assignments can be done such as online assignment, paper assignment, logical assignment, descriptive assignment, etc. there can be students who like doing any particular type of assignment and are not interested in other types.
There are students who love to do anassignment which is logical and involves much understanding while other enjoy doing descriptive homework which doesn’t involve much time. Thus it is necessary to make them understand that each and every work is important.
- No Physical Rewards
Students usually want to get rewarded and recognized for the work they have done. Failure to provide them with that recognition may demotivate them from doing that work. Thus, it becomes one of the reasons for them to dislike homework.
This is because it is important that they get rewarded for even a small work they do in order tobe motivated throughout their school life.
- No Further Help
It has been seen that students will do their homework in time if they find that these work will come in their exams in future and will be used. Thus it is necessary to include the assignments in exam syllabus so that they have no other option but to do that homework on time.
The other reason why students are not interested in not doing the assessments given to them is that a delay of these homework doesn’t contain any marks and it will not affect them much.
- Waste of Planning
Lastly, it is seen that students dislike doing thetask at home because it usually doesn’t come under their planning. They plan for other things, and suddenly these tasks occur to be a burden on them, and they avoid doing it. But if they ignore these tasks now it will become a habit for them in future.
These are most important reasons behind students avoiding their school work and fail to excel in their studies. Thus it is important for the parents and teachers to help them develop an interest towards their studies and acquire a habit of doing homework regularly.
Ways to motivate your child
Let us now know some ways by which you can help your child in doing the task given to them from school or colleges:
- Ask your child to set a particular time for doing the task every day. Putting aside time for homework every day will force them to sit with their work on time.
- Talk to your child and explain to them why it is important to do these works and what the benefits of it are in the long run also.
- Give students a choice to do assignments which they like so that they remain motivated for it until they don’t make it as a habit.
Along with these, you can also look at how can teachers help their pupils manage their homework timeso that they can also take out time for their own work. This is because it is the only way a student can be successful in his life as well as in his career. Homework is the first step to it as it helps them to fetch good marks in future.
